Football Passing Drill: Quarterback: Finding the Open Window

Quarterback: Finding the Open Window Setting up the Drill

1) Place three defenders at linebacker depth, approximately five yards apart
2) Have one receiver aligned at one end behind defenders

The Drill

1) The quarterback takes a three- or five-step drop.
2) On plant step, receiver will start across, and three defenders take one giant step left or right at random, creating natural windows.
3) Quarterback should adjust feet and throw to receiver in best window.

Coaching Points

* This a great drill for receivers to concentrate and quarterbacks to focus on timing.
* Great for a youth team, as you have up to five players in activity during one drill.
* Rotate receivers to linebacker, and linebackers to receiver.
* Make sure to use your running backs as well as receivers.
