Soccer Offense Drill: Create Room for Strike on Goal
This drill teaches soccer players how to make moves in front of the goal, trying to get a shot past a defender.
Set up 2 cones in front of the goal (distance from goal varies based on age level of players). Cones should be approximately 10 feet apart from one another.
Have one player stay between the cones and play defense, without trying to steal the ball. The defender should just move laterally and attempt to get in front of the shot.
Give the ball to a player and have him/her dribble up to the cones and then parallel to the goal, using moves, trying to create space from the defender. Once they create space tell them to take a shot on goal.
The key is to have them perform this drill without turning their backs to the defender.
