Equipment Needed
- Batting tee
- Bat
- Several balls
- Net or fence
Setup
- Set the tee at home plate height, facing a net or fence for safety.
- Have a bucket of balls within arm's reach so reps continue without a break to collect balls until the round is finished.
Instructions
- Round 1: set the tee at the low part of the zone, take 5 swings focusing on staying through the ball.
- Round 2: raise the tee to the middle of the zone, take 5 swings focusing on a level barrel path.
- Round 3: raise the tee to the top of the zone, take 5 swings focusing on staying on top of the ball.
- Finish with 5 swings at a randomly chosen height to simulate game unpredictability.
Coaching Points
- Front foot lands before the hands start forward — check this on every round.
- Keep the back elbow connected to the body through the swing rather than flying open early.
- Eyes track the ball onto the tee even after contact, not out toward the field.
- Finish the swing with the hands high and balanced, not falling out of the box.
Variation
Move to soft toss once tee mechanics are consistent, or add an inside/outside pitch location dimension by moving the tee toward or away from the plate.
